How a Game Lives: The Annotated Essays of Jacob Geller is now complete!

Good news: editing for How a Game Lives: The Annotated Essays of Jacob Geller is now complete!

That means every re-visited essay, and every new piece of writing, has been polished and perfected by our excellent editor Blake Hester and by Geller himself.

Reflecting on the process, Hester said:

“This project was one of the most difficult I've ever taken on, just in terms of its sheer scale. But it was, without a doubt, also one of the most rewarding. Jacob and I worked down to the per-word level finding ways to preserve his original scripts and present them in a new format for readers. Additionally, editing all the contributors was a joy; some of the essays are among the best I've ever read. I'm biased, but I think this is one of the best books we've ever put out.”

After some number-crunching, we can confirm that How a Game Lives features over 20,000 original words in annotations and commentary from Geller, with over 25,000 new words from guest writers in all-new contributing essays and afterwords.

So, on top of immortalising in print some of Jacob’s most loved essays, we are bringing you in excess of 45,000 words of new writing.

With editing complete, we are now fully focused on the design of the title. We’ll be sure to share new spreads once they’re ready.

How a Game Lives: The Annotated Essays of Jacob Geller is expected to ship Q4 2024.

Thanks for the patience and all your support!
